There are so many commercial products available in the market for reducing hair fall and promoting healthier hair growth.

But we all know natural remedies are the best to try first. Six methods are given below with the things easily available at home. These are methods passed on from elders who believed in natural remedies. I have tried all of them on different occasions and I found each one useful to me.

No need to try all of these, just any one method will do which is easily available with you, to control the hair fall.

1. Coconut oil — Many people use coconut oil for hair. It is packed with fatty acids that penetrate the hair shaft, reducing protein loss and strengthening hair. Then leave it for at least an hour and wash with a mild shampoo. You will have to try this for a few days regularly to see the results.

2. Fenugreek seeds (methi) — In my younger days, once a week we were given fenugreek treatment at home. Fenugreek seeds are rich in proteins and nicotinic acid, which strengthen hair roots and stimulate growth. They also help moisturize the scalp. It was used by soaking overnight, then grind them into a paste, and apply to your scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and then wash it off. Try it once a week for 3–4 weeks.

3. Hibiscus — Both the flowers and leaves of Hibiscus are known for their hair rejuvenating properties. They are rich in vitamins and amino acids that promote hair growth and reduce hair fall. Make a paste with hibiscus flowers and leaves by grinding, then apply it to your scalp and hair. Leave it on for 30–45 minutes and then wash it off. Doing it once a week is sufficient. Try it once a week for 3–4 week.

4. Yogurt- Yogurt (Curd) treatment is another home remedy to try. Yogurt is rich in proteins and vitamins that help strengthen hair and improve scalp health. It works well for dandruff and itching because of its antimicrobial properties. Since it is semisolid just apply plain yogurt to your scalp and hair. No need to do anything more to it. Leave it for 30 minutes and then wash it with lukewarm water. Try it once a week for 3–4 weeks.

5. Aloe vera — Aloe vera has soothing and healing properties. It helps calm the scalp, reduce dandruff, and clear blocked hair follicles, promoting stronger hair roots and growth. Cut a leaf and remove the sides, remove the yellow liquid from the cutting edge and then remove the gel. Apply it on the hair evenly and leave it for about 30 minutes and then wash it off. Try it once a week for 3–4 weeks.

6. Onion — Onion juice is rich in sulphur, which boosts collagen production and aids in hair regrowth. It also has antibacterial properties that help prevent scalp infections. Extract juice from an onion, apply it to your scalp, and leave it on for 15–20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with a mild shampoo. Try it once a week for 3–4 weeks.

Thank you for reading. I hope at least one of the above methods will be useful to you.

Visit to Sri Sai Old Age Home

Recently I was invited by my neighbours to attend a birthday party of their grandson. I was eager to attend it since it was an unusual type of birthday celebration. It was not celebrated at home in a conventional way, but the celebration was with the inmates of an old age home - Sri Sai Old Age Home Orphanage, Magadi Main Road, Sunkadakatte, Bangalore.   It was an overwhelming experience for everyone.   As we stepped in we saw two aged women walking in the veranda. Seeing our unfamiliar faces they paused and stared at us.    Their eyes looked tired and empty, and greeted us with a faint smile. Sri Sai Old Age Home Orphanage is located in Magadi Main Road, Sunkadakatte, Bangalore.  serving the elderly senior citizens and destitutes. It was started by late K.L. Ravi Kumar, who was in scrap business, 17 years ago and since his death 5 years ago, his sons Pradeep Kumar and Sashi Kumar continue this noble work. These young brothers spend their whol...
