Health Benefits of Changalamparandi (Bone setter)

 Changalamparandi (Cissus Quadrangularis)  is an herbal plant used in many ayurvedic medicines. It is also known as Hadjod plant, Asthi Shrunkala, sannalam, nalleru, vajraveli, mangara valli, devil's backbone, adamant creeper etc. 

This herbal plant has several health benefits such as good for fixing joint issues.  That is the reason it is known as Bone setter plant.  It has quadrangular-sectioned branches with internodes and grows with a height of 1.5 m. 


Bone setter plant is native to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and also found in Southeast Asia and Africa.

How does Bone setter (Changalamparandi) herb help us for our health?


The leaves and branches of this herb have health properties. They are analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporotic, antioxidant, anti-ulcer, and bone-healing properties. 

They can be used both internally and externally, but of course, with a consultation of an ayurvedic physician, to avoid any problems. 

External use - Medicinal oil can be made from the stems with equal amount of sesame oil, for external application on the body where there is any pain related to bones. 

Internal use — The stems and leaves can be used for cooking like a side dish or chutney and can be used. I grow it at home and use it occasionally. Supplements are also available in the market.

My Trip to Palani

Palani Murugan Temple is located on top of the Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu, South India.  The idol of Palani Andavar is said to have been made of  Navapashanam ( a combination of Veeram, Pooram, Rasam, Jathilingam, Kandagam, Gauri Pasanam, Vellai Pasanam, Mridharsingh, Silasat) ,  by a siddhar called Bhogar. We had booked an accommodation in a budget hotel, Soundarya, after reading many  reviews by Tripadvisor travellers. My trip to Nagamangalam, Tamil Nadu

Recently I had an opportunity to visit Lourdes Matha church (Our Lady of Lourdes) at Nagamangalam in Tamil Nadu. Nagamangalam is a Village in Kelamangalam Taluk in Krishnagiri District of Tamil Nadu State. One of my friends wanted to visit there and asked me whether I can accompany her. I took it as a God given opportunity and agreed to accompany her. I immediately googled to collect more details about the place, but initially I didn't find much information.
